FAW-VW, DC & BC

    FAW-VW is a Joint Venture of Chinese automobile manufacturer FAW and Volkswagen AG. In Changchun in the Northeast of China the most important plant of FAW-VW with a daily production of ~1.100 vehicles is located. Currently in 2003 FAW-VW decided to build up a new plant with similar production capacity.

    For estimating of technical solution and the investment cost for a separate logistics centre for this new VW-plant FAW-VW ordered a Feasibility Study at Fablog.

    In the Feasibility Study first the quantity framework for the logistics was determined. Special difficulty was that not all necessary planning data was available due to the fact of the vehicles that will be new produced in China so that assumptions on basis of known vehicle models had to be made.
    On basis of this quantity framework in the second step a Deconsolidation center as buffer warehouse for the parts that are not produce in China was dimensioned and a Basket Center for picking and delivering the production directly due to its specific demands in baskets.     For both logistics centers technical variants were worked out and economically evaluated including the investment and future operational cost.
    On the result of the Feasibility Study the release of the complete project follows and FAW-VW ordered the system planning and further fine planning of Deconsolidation as well as Basket Center at Fablog.
